A voice of the anti-political majority |
|
Principles The only fixed policy of the Anti Party is that we have
no policies. All members are required to make their own minds up on all
issues at all times. We really are a party of independents. However, we do share a commitment to democracy. Not sham
democracy, such as the UK currently has, but real democracy: a country
governed in accordance with the will and needs of its population. That means moderating the power of political parties.
Political parties, though highly desirable instruments in the focusing
and energising of political activities, are unfortunately also
inherently anti-democratic. See paper on Democracy for an analysis of the current shortfall in democracy in the UK, and of the contribution of political parties to that. We acknowledge the need, in providing democracy, to pay due
regard to the wishes and needs of all sections of the population. There
need to be limits to how much any majority can impose on a minority.
There needs to be as much consideration for those citizens who do not
have a vote as for those who do. In general, there needs to be
equitable treatment for all, regardless of such things as sex, race,
religion, profession and age. Note that we say equitable rather than equal, because we have
to acknowledge that rational discrimination is desirable, and different
people have different needs: children need schools, the elderly need
pensions, the sick need medical care, for example. What we cannot
accept is irrational discrimination based on stereotyping: "You cannot
live here because you are black", "You cannot do this job because you
are a woman". |
