A voice of the anti-political majority

UK Political Parties

A. Unprincipled power-seekers
These are the "major" parties. We have no affinity with them, because they are fundamentally anti-democratic. It is their practices which the Anti Party opposes more than any.

  • Labour Party (aka NuLabor, ex Socialists)
  • Conservative Party (aka the Tories)

B. Serious party with little current chance of being elected
We have considerable sympathy, but it is muted. They aspire to be the third major party, and are nearly there. But they have to emulate the major parties to improve their chances (just as NuLabor had to mimic the Tories to get elected). So they have to push their ideas and principles back a bit. As a result they sometimes seem to be "neither one thing nor the other".

  • Liberal Democrats (including Welsh Liberal Democrats, Scottish Liberal Democrats)

C. Even more serious parties with even less chance of being elected
This is our group. All believe in truth and democracy (at the moment, at least, but a whiff of success might change that, except in our case). There are divergences in detail between these parties, but no more so than within the Anti Party!

  • Anti Party
  • Green Party (comprising Green Party of England and Wales, Scottish Green Party, and Green Party of Northern Ireland)
  • Liberal Party (sic)

D. Ideas
Parties of principle. But they don't make it to Group C above. They are judged to be too firm in their principles to be truly honest and democratic. Principles are good, but unbending principles become oppressive dogmatism. They apparently think they have the final solution to all problems; we certainly do not.

  • Communist Parties (Communist Party of Britain, Revolutionary Communist Party of Great Britain
  • Socialist Parties (Socialist Workers Party, Socialist Workers Party Ireland, Socialist Equality Party, Socialist Labour Party, Socialist Party, Socialist Party of Great Britain, Scottish Socialist Party, Socialist Party, Socialist Party, Socialist Party,

  • Unionist Parties (Northern Ireland Unionist Party, Ulster Unionist Party, Ulster Democratic Unionist Party, Progressive Unionist Party, United Kingdom Unionist Party)
